Key Areas of Research and Development

Under modern conditions, environmental sustainability and energy efficiency across many industrial sectors and manufacturing processes should be regarded as strategic aspects of energy independence and, consequently, national resilience.
Despite the objective challenges of the present time, the company has preserved its research and development potential. A number of scientific and technical programs are being developed in cooperation with faculty members and researchers of the Department of Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation at Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, as well as with international partners.
1. We have developed the core concept for a research and development project to be implemented with international partners under a NATO program: “Energy- and environmentally efficient solutions for enhanced protection of technological equipment at energy facilities and gas compressor stations against external impacts, through the creation of an integrated structure with a single-span arched enclosure.”
A single-span arched enclosure is a versatile protective structure that, combined with energy-efficient containment solutions and the utilization of waste heat, enables the reliable and environmentally responsible operation of thermal power plants (TPPs) and gas compressor stations (GCSs) in conditions of aggressive external environments, explosive impacts, and limited energy resources.

2. Development of energy- and environmentally efficient integrated systems for the combined generation of heating and cooling media to support technological processes and indoor climate control systems in underground structures and shelters.
Scientific research is being conducted to develop solutions for integrating absorption chillers (ACHs) into trigeneration processes for enclosed industrial facilities equipped with combined heat and power generators, enabling the autonomous production of electricity, heat, and environmentally friendly cooling. The integration of ice storage technology into the trigeneration system is also proposed for cooling applications.
Scientific studies substantiate the use of air-cycle refrigeration machines (ACRMs) in combination with evaporative cooling processes for treating and supplying conditioned air with specified parameters to spaces containing electronic equipment and precision technologies protected from external impacts.
3. Development and research of energy-efficient airflow distribution systems and localized containment of industrial contaminants to create clean working zones in confined spaces across various industrial facilities.

The following areas are being investigated:● New principles of air distribution for occupied lower zones under confined conditions;● Dynamic indoor climate: directionally variable airflow, intermittent and periodically operating air jets, and calculations of transient processes (theory and experiment);● Air distribution using rapidly attenuating air jets with a controlled degree of turbulence;● Dynamic air barriers — horizontal and vertical, two-level supply and exhaust systems;● Multi-jet, two-position air curtains for protection against external impacts and for maintaining clean zones.

4. Development and research of environmentally safe autonomous air-cooling systems for maintaining specified indoor climate parameters in work zones and creating air oases in technological spaces within above-ground and underground industrial and defense infrastructure.
The following areas are being investigated:
● Air-conditioning systems based on air-cycle refrigeration machines with increased pressure in air distribution networks;● Mobile spot-cooling units based on vortex tubes (heating/cooling);● Combined two-stage thermoelectric air conditioners with evaporative cooling for enclosed high-heat-load zones.

The theoretical foundations of natural turbulent convection at vertical heat-emitting surfaces have been developed, along with physical and mathematical models for the formation of airflow and thermal conditions in energy and industrial facilities.

New designs of exhaust ventilation devices have been developed and widely implemented in the construction of main buildings of thermal and nuclear power plants with non-glazed roofs. This represents an energy-efficient solution for the construction of modern industrial facilities in Ukraine.

Expert assessments to determine the presence of wind pressure zones caused by the aerodynamic impact of proposed high-rise structures on existing urban development, using physical and mathematical modeling methods.

Development of physical and mathematical models for airflow and thermal conditions in buildings and structures of various types.

Air-jet enclosures have been developed to contain hazardous gases from large industrial baths used for electroplating or pickling, as well as spent-fuel storage pools in nuclear power plant reactor buildings. These solutions can achieve virtually 100% capture efficiency for carcinogenic or radioactive substances released into the surrounding environment, while requiring minimal energy consumption.

Active local exhaust systems have also been developed, including:
- Hoods of various designs with dynamic enclosures or integrated structural elements that reduce overall height requirements, together with calculation methods for their design;
- Canopy hoods with air-jet curtains;
- Compensating-type side exhaust panels.
